Bike Tour Guide
Choosing a Palermo Bike Tour
Which bike tour covers what, and how much food each one gives you.
Why ride rather than walk
The Palermo: Guided Bike Tour with Street Food Tasting from Sicilyland (our breakdown) is $53 per person, runs 3.5 hours and holds a 4.8 rating from 663 reviews. The bike covers more of the city than a walk does, including the waterfront, and the food is a single stop, not the point of the day.
That is the main difference from the walking formats. On the street food walking tour and the market tour, you eat several times. Here you ride for most of the three and a half hours and taste once, so it suits you if the sights and the saddle matter as much as the food.
The route
You ride through the old centre at a leisurely pace along backstreets and through squares. The listing names Piazza Bellini and Piazza Pretoria, then the Cassaro, San Francesco church and Piazza Marina, where a large Moreton Bay fig stands. The route then follows the waterfront, with views over the sea and the harbour, and the old port of La Cala.
Palermo is very flat, and the listing says the tour suits all ages and fitness levels. A radio guide lets you hear the guide while you ride, which helps in traffic. The only exclusion listed is pregnancy.
What you eat
The listing says there is a street food and drink tasting at a stop on the route, and does not list the dishes. Expect a snack, not lunch. If you want a meal, book a walking tour or plan a lunch afterwards, and our guide to what to eat on a Palermo street food tour explains the usual dishes.
The tour starts at the operator’s base on Discesa dei Giudici, so you only need to get yourself to that one address. Group size is not stated in this listing, which is one reason to compare it with the other two bike tours below, where the size or the tasting is spelled out.
Two other bike tours with food
The Historic Center Guided Bike Tour with Food Tasting from SICICLA (our breakdown) is $50 per person for 3 hours and has 104 reviews at 4.7. It rides through Ballarò old market and Vucciria and past Fontana Pretoria, Quattro Canti and the Cathedral. The tasting is described as a sample, or an almond pastry, and reviewers mention a few narrow or steeper sections.
The Guided Bike Tour of Palermo with Street Food from PalermOnBike (our breakdown) is $50 per person for 3 hours, in groups of up to 15, with 17 reviews at 4.8. The tasting is panelle and crocchè, or an almond dessert on Sundays. The listing expects previous cycling experience and lists several groups as unsuitable, so read its notes before booking. The table below sets the three side by side.
When to go and who it suits
A bike tour works best when you want to cover the old centre and the sea front in one outing, and when you are comfortable on a bike in a busy city. Heat matters on the water, where there is little shade, so a hat and sunscreen are sensible in summer. Reviewers describe guides who were knowledgeable and funny, and one group praised the guides for looking after them through bad weather and the chaotic streets.
Families with teenagers who ride confidently can join, but the listing does not set a minimum age, so ask the operator if you are bringing children. If you would rather not ride in traffic at all, the night tour page covers an evening on foot instead.
Practical notes
- Meeting point: Sicilyland Palermo Bike Tours, Discesa dei Giudici 21b, 90133 Palermo.
- Bikes, helmets and radio guides are included. Hotel pickup, gratuities and extra food and drinks are not.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can pedal in. Quiet streets are not the same as empty ones, so ride with the group and follow the guide.
- On busy stops, keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket or a zipped bag.
- Not sure which format? Our guide to which Palermo tour is right for you compares them.

"We were so lucky to find this tour - Chiara and Anna were so amazing - we had absolutely terrible weather but they made it so much better They looked after us through the chaotic streets of Palermo and are just one of the loveliest people we met. The entire staff were helpful as I am short and they found me a very cool bike. Great people!"
"Chiara from Sicilyland Palermo Bike Tours was amazing — super knowledgeable, friendly and funny! My husband and I learned so many interesting facts about Palermo that we would have never discovered on our own. We loved the bike ride and the food tasting was delicious. Perfect pace, safe route, and such a fun way to see the city. We highly recommend it. Thank you Chiara for the lovely tour!!"

"We had a great time on the Bike Tour, food was great, Chiara our guide was very funny, friendly and informative . She did her absolute best to keep track of all the bikers as we rode through town. The pace of the ride was a bit fast at times( even for my spouse) and a little scary with trying to cross streets with people and cars moving about with such a long line of bikes trying to move together. The tour might work smoother if it was a smaller group of 5 or 6 max."

"Chiara was the most charismatic and informative guide with lots of local tips and knowledge. A wonderful experience to start our time in Palermo"

"Wow what an amazing way to see Palermo especially if you are only staying for 2-3days. Our guide was amazing taking us through the busy streets and visiting the must see landmarks. Her knowledge is unmatched and post tour recommendations ensure you see true Sicilian culture."
"Chiara was a great tour leader. She managed the group very well as we negotiated pedestrians, scooters, motorcycles and trucks in some parts. Luckily, there were a lot of quiet streets and the promenade along the waterfront to balance it out. The microphone and headsets worked very well. We had a small break to enjoy the cannoli and granite as well as being able to order a cappuccino. Later, we stopped near the cathedral and had a savoury treat (arancini) and a sampling of a Sicilian beer before taking a short visit to the Cathedral. The bikes were all in good condition. A very enjoyable 3 hours. Highly recommended tour."
"Such a fun morning discovering some of the delights of Palermo, Chiara was fun and engaging. Great way to familiarise yourself with the is bustling city"

Palermo Bike Tour FAQ
Questions about the Sicilyland guided bike tour with street food tasting.
The Sicilyland tour runs 3.5 hours and costs $53 per person. You ride at a leisurely pace through the old centre and along the waterfront, with one stop for a street food and drink tasting. The two other bike tours on this site run 3 hours.
No. The listing describes a street food and drink tasting at one stop on the route and does not list the dishes. Treat it as a snack, and plan lunch or dinner afterwards if you want a full meal. A walking tour with several tastings feeds you more.
The listing says Palermo is very flat and the tour suits all ages and fitness levels. It marks the tour as not suitable for pregnant women. Other bike tours on this site have stricter notes, so check each listing if anyone in your group has a health condition.
A bicycle, a helmet, a licensed bilingual guide, a radio guide and food and drink tastings. Hotel pickup and drop-off, gratuities and extra food and drinks beyond the tastings are not included. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes suited to pedalling.
At Sicilyland Palermo Bike Tours, Discesa dei Giudici 21b, 90133 Palermo, the operator's base. The other two bike tours compared on this page also start on Discesa dei Giudici, at number 13 or 13B, so check your confirmation for the exact address.
The listing names Piazza Bellini and Piazza Pretoria, the Cassaro, San Francesco church, Piazza Marina with its large Moreton Bay fig, and a waterfront stretch with views over the sea and harbour towards La Cala. The Cathedral is not named in this listing.
Both start on Discesa dei Giudici. The SICICLA historic centre tour is $50 and rides through Ballarò and Vucciria. The PalermOnBike tour is $50, caps groups at 15 and expects previous cycling experience. Our tour guide helps you choose.
It depends. A bike covers more ground and the waterfront, but the food is a single tasting. A walking tour such as the street food walking tour gives you more stops and more to eat. Choose by what matters more to you.
Yes. The listing says you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund. If rain or wind changes your plans, decide before that cut-off, because cancelling later is not covered by the listing's free cancellation.
