Eating Palermo: Evening Food & Wine Small Group Tour

4.7 (21 verified reviews)

About This Experience

This is an evening food and wine walk for a small group, led by an English-speaking guide. It starts when Palermo's piazzas fill up and covers the historic centre on foot. The route passes Teatro Massimo, the Quattro Canti and Piazza Pretoria and its fountain, and the guide uses the stops to explain the city's layers of history, from medieval fortifications to Baroque squares. The group stays small, which makes it easy to ask the guide about food, history or where to eat the next day.

The food stops are spread across the walk. Tastings include Sicilian-style pizza in a 15th-century palace, wine and regional small plates, and mignon arancine with a local drink at a street food spot in La Kalsa. A beer and food stop on Via Alloro and a short tasting on Via Maqueda are also on the itinerary. Expect the pace to be unhurried, with room for questions. Each stop is short, between fifteen and forty-five minutes, so the evening keeps moving without feeling rushed or turning into a sit-down meal.

The night ends at a historic pastry counter with a cannolo. The operator says tastings and stops can vary by day or season, so treat the list as a sample of what the tour often features rather than a fixed menu. The itinerary also marks the start and finish as depending on the option selected. Because the route is built around tastings, you can pace yourself over the evening and still have room for the final sweet.

Come hungry and wear flat shoes, as the walk is on city streets. The operator will try to accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free guests if told in advance. A minimum of two guests is needed for the tour to run, and if that is not met the operator contacts you to reschedule or refund. Solo travellers can book, but the tour needs two guests in total, so check availability for your date.

If you are visitng Palermo you must do this tour! Benny was our guide today and he was absolutely awesome! He spent 4 hours taking us off the beaten track to some incredibly authentic tasty hidden gems. The local cuisine was spectacular and the Sicilian wine pairings were excellent. Also, I loved the atmosphere of the old brothel! Bennys insights into the city made the experience unforgettable. Highly highly recommend!!

If you're looking for a fun time, do this tour! Had a great experience with Giulia. The food was delicious from beginning to end: pizza, arancini, cannolis and a lot more! Some unique dining places were also on the tour (one of them used to be a brothel!). I would totally do it again!
